01 / The practice

Between painting
and sculpture.

Watkin calls his approach Crosshatch Expressionism. Built without brushes, the paintings combine measured bands and grids with dense, scraped acrylic. The paint is both colour and material.

Tools draw through the wet surface, revealing earlier layers and leaving raised edges that catch the light. Repetition establishes order; gesture and accident interrupt it. Viewed from different angles, the work moves between optical pattern and sculptural relief.

Control, gesture
and chance.

A grid provides the structure, but the scraper never produces an entirely predictable mark. Ridges, interruptions and overlapping colour turn the painting into a physical object. This is Crosshatch Expressionism: precision held in tension with the unexpected.

US collectors. Shipping from England is complimentary. The studio covers any applicable US import duties and customs clearance charges; no additional import or delivery bill is payable on arrival.
